Me at The Firm

BIM/CAD Manager
Systems Administrator
Senior Structural Engineering Technician
Verbal Volleyball Player

This is where I hang my hat after 15 years of AutoCAD and the structural discipline.  Actually, it is "hats" since I do many things here.  Trying to balance my time between them and still try to be "billable" can be quite a challenge at times, but it's also part of the fun.  Transitioning our firm to a 3D parametric design environment using Revit Structure is the next mountain to climb, but I can handle it.

I just hope the rest of the world can handle me!

Here is a somewhat complete list of what I actually do here:

  • Oversight of day-to-day CAD operations: development & implementation of lisp, scripts, libraries, ordering/set-up of new equipment, training on CAD related software, procedures, and company standards.
  • Oversight of day-to-day network & individual workstation operations: virus control & utilities management, troubleshooting issues, productivity & profitability enhancements, ordering/set-up of new equipment, backup/restoration/archival of critical files, network organization & optimization, and set-up/maintain network security protocols.
  • Review/recommend/install new software products, update existing software, and maintain software licensing records (except engineering software: Chris Sterne handles that monster rather well)
  • Liaise with vendors & suppliers on a regular basis.
  • Prepare structural drawings (plans, schedules, details & sections) from project .
  • Conduct field investigations of existing conditions.

Established in 1985, Sinclair Pratt Cameron, P.C. has contributed to the community for over 20 years as a knowledgeable & experienced consulting structural engineering firm.  Our work has included multi-story offices, warehouse and manufacturing facilities, medical and sports facilities, large shopping centers, churches, schools, cofferdams, bulkheads, parking garages, multi-family complexes, single family homes, and stateside/overseas military facilities.

The 3 principals of the firm have all worked for construction contractors and construction management firms. This experience allows us to produce practical and economical designs with an emphasis on constructability. Our firm has developed an in house Quality Control Manual which includes a systematic review process with progress checklists that enable us to detect and correct discrepancies and inaccuracies prior to document completion.

In addition, to the various engineering services which we provide, Sinclair Pratt Cameron, P.C. can also perform Special Inspections on both projects which we design and projects designed outside our office. Essentially, Special Inspections is a systematic procedure for ensuring that those structural items that are critical to the building’s safety and stability are constructed in accordance with the Contract Documents. Typically the Engineer of Record heads up the team of inspectors and assembles a schedule of the structural elements that require inspection. The testing lab is responsible for materials testing. The Special Inspector keeps records of all inspections and furnishes inspection reports to the code official and to the engineer or architect of record. After all of the deficiencies are corrected, a Final Report of Special Inspections is prepared for the governing Building Official.
